We also charge a fee for signing certificates such as private medical certificates, sick notes and private prescriptions. Please click Practice Charges.

*HGV/LGV and PSV medicals are currently paused because we are experiencing an increase in patient demand and are therefore prioritising NHS work

Do GPs have to do non-NHS work for their patients?

With certain limited exceptions, GPs do not have to carry out non-NHS work on behalf of their patients. Whilst GPs will always attempt to assist their patients with the completion of forms, they are not required to do such non-NHS work.

Why does it sometimes take my GP a long time to complete my form?

Non-NHS work is generally done in the doctor’s own time because they must prioritise NHS work first, so just because a fee is attached, does not mean you can demand it is done quickly.

I only need the doctor’s signature – what is the problem?

When a doctor signs a certificate or completes a report, it is a condition of remaining on the Medical Register that they only sign what they know to be true.  In order to complete even the simplest of forms, therefore, the doctor might have to check the patient’s entire medical record. Carelessness or an inaccurate report can have serious consequences for the doctor with the General Medical Council (the doctors’ regulatory body) or even the Police.

Referrals

From time to time, it may be necessary to refer patients to a consultant for further care.  In such cases we will do our utmost to ensure referral letters are sent promptly from the practice.

Where possible, the practice tries to refer patients via a system called NHS e-Referral service, giving you choice on your hospital/clinic and appointment date/time.

Please appreciate that there may be some delay before you receive an appointment which is usually outside of our control.

Health Visitors

Health Visitors are qualified and experienced nurses or midwives with additional specialist training in family, community or public health care. There are Health Visitors attached to, but not based at the practice.

Maternity Services

Ante natal clinics are held at a local practice, booked by your midwife. The practice has a midwife attached to, but not based/working at, the practice.

Post natal appointments are held at the practice by the doctors. This appointment should usually take place 6-8 weeks after the birth of a baby, and checks both mother and baby. If is important your baby attends their Post Natal check in the time-frame suggested.

Minor Surgery

The practice offers a minor surgery service.  You will need to make an appointment with a doctor first to discuss your condition and the doctor will then decide if this is suitable for treatment at the surgery.

If suitable, you will be put on our waiting list for a further appointment in a minor surgery clinic.  At the present time Dr Chinta hold minor surgery clinics to which any of the doctors can refer.

For all Minor Surgery appointments, please can you arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to complete the pre-surgery paperwork.

We unfortunately cannot offer Minor Surgery procedures to patients not registered at our practice.

Travel Advice

If you would like travel vaccination advice, you must first complete a travel questionnaire which will be sent via sms by reception. If you do can not do this, you can collect from reception.

After you complete/bring this in/or post it we will book a telephone consultation with the nurse who will discuss your travel arrangements and advise on what vaccinations you require. They will arrange a face to face appointment at this time if necessary.

It is important to make this initial appointment for at least 6-weeks in advance of travelling.  This is because travel vaccines often need ordering or prescribing, so you may need another visit to have these vaccinations administered.  Additionally, some travel vaccines are chargeable.

Please note that we do not prescribe antimalarial medications. If you require antimalarials for travel or other purposes for adults or children, we advise patients contact their local pharmacies to check if they can do this. It does not require a prescription.

There are some pharmacies which offer travel service and also travel clinics, they may be able to offer additional advice which your local pharmacy may not.

Non-urgent advice: We are unable to administer Yellow Fever vaccination

This vaccination can only be given at designated centres. For more information or to find your local designated centre please visit  NHS Choices website.

Child Immunisations

The Practice Nurses administer child immunisations.

Your Health Visitor will have discussed the importance of immunisations before you take your baby to see the nurse and answered any of your concerns. Your baby cannot be immunised without parental consent. Therefore if a grandparent is bringing the baby, written consent must be brought with the child and pre-signed by the parent.
