Additional Treatment

We offer treatment for; dressing changes/checks, suture removal, ear syringing, venous leg ulcer, minor lacerations/burns (excluding: hands, feet, neck, fave and genitals), minor trauma to hands, limbs or feet.

Annual Reviews
Where patients have more than one medical condition requiring an annual review, wherever possible the nurse team will combine these reviews into one visit.  Please note that this may not always be possible.

Coronary Heart Disease (CHD)/Hypertension
Due to the necessity to take blood samples this requires a morning appointment. CHD/Hypertension appointments cover a wide group of people within the practice area. We conduct reviews to: monitor the condition, ask questions about lifestyle, take blood pressure, offer advice re: stopping smoking, diets and leisure activity. 
 
Cytology (Cervical Smears)
This is our only female only clinic.

It is of paramount importance that women attend regular semar screening. We also offer the opportunity for patients to discuss all other female/well woman issues with a relevant practitioner.  
 
C-card Scheme
The practice operates a c-card scheme which is for those aged between 13-18 year old to access sexual health advice and free condoms.  The C-card scheme is only available to patients registered at the practice.
 
 
Diabetic Clinic
Due to the necessity to take blood samples this requires a morning appointment.  Patients with Diabetes require regular check-ups with a nurse, unless already registered for regular care at the hospital.  During the clinic the patient will have: blood samples taken, weight measured, blood pressure and pulse and footcare & lifestyle discussed.  This is also an opportunity for the patient to ask the nurse questions.  
 
Emergency Contraception
Access to information regarding the morning-after-pill can be obtained from pharmacies, doctor or nurse. 
 
General Surgery
These appointments are for routine blood tests, blood pressure monitoring, dressings and day to day problems that can be dealt with by the practice nurses. 
  
Health Promotion
This clinic is available for health checks, travel vaccinations and any of the above.  It is important to state the reason for the appointment in health promotion clinic at time of booking to ensure the appropriate practitioner is available. 
  
HCA/Phlebotomy
These appointments, with a Health Care Assistant (HCA), are for: routine blood tests, diagnostic blood tests and ECGs requested by a doctor.   

Influenza campaign
October every year sees the annual launch of the Department of Health’s (DoH) influenza campaign.  The nurse team spearhead this campaign at the practice, providing extra clinics for pts requiring a flu jab, with doctors offering them opportunistically.

Priority must be given to patients in ‘at risk’ groups (identification of these can be found on the DoH website), with patients not at risk usually asked to call back in December.

Influenza vaccines for the 2010/11 campaign are now being organised.

  Respiratory
This clinic covers Asthma & Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD).
Asthmatics will discuss their: medication dosage, technique of taking medication & the mechanics of asthma.  They will be taught how to manage their own condition with the help of peak flow monitoring.

COPD patients will attend for an annual review, which is quite a lengthy appointment.  They will undergo Spirometry testing, discuss medication and management of their condition.

Sexual Health Services
We offer a free, confidential sexual health check up for all our patients aged between 14 and 24 years. This includes screening for:

• HIV
• Syphilis (a blood test is taken for this)
• Chlamydia
• Gonorrhoea (a self-swab or urine sample is taken for this test)

We also offer advice about safe sex, and can provide free condoms.

Please ask for an appointment for a sexual health check up with a doctor or nurse  
 
Travel Advice
Most vaccinations required due to travelling abroad can be administered in our travel clinic.  The nurse will discuss with you your travel arrangements and advise on what vaccinations you require.

It is important to make this initial appointment for at least 6-weeks in advance of travelling.  This is because travel vaccines often need ordering or prescribing, so you may need another visit to have these vaccinations administered.  Additionally, some travel vaccines are chargeable. 
 
Changing and cancelling appointments
Wherever possible please give at least 24 hours notice if you need to change or cancel your nurse appointment at the surgery.  The appointment slot can then be offered to another patient.  Failing to attend appointments is not fair on others requiring, but unable to obtain, an appointment, and wastes valuable time for the nurse.  On average, 16% of patients fail to keep their nurse appointment - that is one appointment in every six wasted.
 
More than 2 appointments that you ‘Did Not Attend’ (DNA) in a 12 month period can result in a cautionary letter being sent to you.  Additional DNAs can result in you and those registered at the same address being removed from the practice list.

District Nurses
Based at the practice, the District Nurse team provide a full range of nursing services in the home situation.  The District nurses possess a varied range of skills including a continence advisory and management service, terminal care, clinical & technical nursing.

The doctors or hospital can arrange for the District Nurse to call.

Travel Clinic

Non NHS Examinations and Reports

We are able to perform examinations for employment, LGV, PSV, fitness to drive, insurance examinations etc. However these are not part of our NHS work and we charge the BMA recommended rates for these examinations.
 
We also charge a fee for signing certificates such as private medical certificates, sick notes and private prescriptions. Please click Practice Charges

Minor Surgery

The practice offers a minor surgery service.  You will need to make an appointment with a doctor first to discuss your condition and the doctor will then decide if this is suitable for treatment at the surgery.
 
If suitable, you will be put on our waiting list for a further appointment in a minor surgery clinic.  At the present time Dr Butler & Dr Chinta hold minor surgery clinics to which any of the doctors can refer.
 
For all Minor Surgery appointments, please can you arrive at least 10 minutes before your appointment to complete the pre-surgery paperwork.
 
We unfortunately cannot offer Minor Surgery procedures to patients not registered at our practice. 
  

Maternity Services

Ante natal clinics are held at a local practice, booked by your midwife.  The practice has a midwife attached to, but not based/working at, the practice. 

Post natal appointments are held at the practice by the doctors.  This appointment should usually take place 6-8 weeks after the birth of a baby, and checks both mother and baby.  If is important your baby attends their Post Natal check in the time-frame suggested. 
 
Health Visitors

Health Visitors are qualified and experienced nurses or midwives with additional specialist training in family, community or public health care.  There are Health Visitors attached to, but not based at the practice. 

Child Immunisations

The Practice Nurses administer child immunisations.  Your Health Visitor will have discussed the importance of immunisations before you take your baby to see the nurse and answered any of your concerns.
 
Your baby cannot be immunised without parental consent.  Therefore if a grandparent is bringing the baby, written consent must be brought with the child and pre-signed by the parent.
